The Guest House
by Rumi
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark [...]

My mom remarried just as I was entering my teens. I didn’t altogether trust this man who was so much older than her and so unlike anyone I’d ever known and it wasn’t long before my shaky trust was shattered permanently. The first time he left us, my mother cried for days, believing he’d been [...]

100 Days of Sacred Art (60.5)
(Poem: The Divinity Carol)
The silver moon sang to me tonight
of beauty
and salvation
and dreams come true.
She wasn’t quiet about it either
she sang loudly
with abandon
and she begged me to sing along.
“What are you hiding from?,”
she yodeled
and the stars, who were just beginning to awaken,
joined in.
“You are a divine Goddess”
they crooned
in a perfect [...]

100 Days of Sacred Art - Entry #40
More journal art (including a new poem) … inspired by the energy of this beautiful day…
the wind felt blue today
not blue sadness
but blue surrender
as the yellowing maple
gently dropped leaves
into the palms of my hands
i surrendered to the energy of…
neighbors
starting their days
in pjs
at breakfast bars
sipping coffee
early birds
listening to aerosmith
or enya
enjoying [...]

100 Days of Sacred Art - Entry #16
(A poem titled, “No Such Thing as Ordinary”)
When I started my 100 Days of Sacred Art project, one of my goals was to find sacred inspiration in my “ordinary” life. I mentioned the project to my mentor not long ago and he reminded me that my life is really [...]

100 Days of Sacred Art – Entry #12
(A poem titled, “I Am Possibility”)
Sometimes I question my reasons for blogging. My heart tells me I do it to express myself, to be heard, to learn to know who I am, but then my Views dip and Comments grow scarce and it suddenly becomes more about validation; [...]
Meeting Joy

i chatted with a crane this morning…
as she searched for her breakfast
amongst the rocks
at the base of the lake road.
she looked up from her labors and asked…
can you be happy in life
no matter what
fate might put in front of you?
and my heart could not find words to reply…
it needed time to ponder
what she might mean

Sacred Chaco Canyon
Posted in Poetry, Sacred Sunday on August 3, 2008 | 1 Comment »
Chaco Canyon is a National Historical Park (and World Heritage site) in northwestern New Mexico. After leaving Taos, I was able to make a detour to visit Pueblo Bonito, which lies within this canyon and is believed to be the largest of the Anasazi great houses to have been built in the area between the mid-800s-1100s.

Where to Start??

The first thing I have to say about this week is “WOW.” It was all that I’d hoped for and so much more and, frankly, I’m having a hard time putting words around it. I’m sitting in a hotel in Farmington, New Mexico watching the sun set over the bluffs and trying to figure out [...]
